Year 7 Boys Football Success!
On Thursday, the Year 7 boys football team had their first 2 matches of the new football season at New College. Having only had one training session, the team firstly played a highly competitive fixture against the hosts. English Martyrs started the game very well and took the lead through Gerard, however New College replied with a well worked goal of their own. After a very close second half however, English Martyrs once again took the lead through a goal from Harry, meaning the match ended with a 2-1 victory. Immediately after the match, English Martyrs then played a second fixture against Samworth, which ended in an even 1-1 draw, with both teams sharing a similar amount of possession and opportunities to win the game.
Overall, the whole squad of 15 players that English Martyrs took to these fixtures demonstrated fantastic commitment, team work and represented the school in excellent fashion. Well done to all of those who participated.

"Every year, in August, there is the Leicestershire Tennis County Championships. This year, I was in the under 14 boy's doubles final with my best friend Alex, after winning a tough first round match and winning the semi-final comfortably. On the day of the finals, I was really excited, thinking about the chance of becoming county champion. My hopes became reality when I hit a great shot to win the match (6-4, 6-3). Students design new school rugby kit
English Martyrs is fortunate this year to be working alongside the English RFU. This has meant many great opportunities for our students, including coaching every Thursday after school by an RFU coach. These sessions are open to students who wish to try rugby.
This partnership has also meant that English Martyrs has been provided with a new school kit provided free by Canterbury.
Back in September '15, Daniel Abela, Craig Robinson, Liam Wheatley and Stefan Seica attended an RFU Canterbury Rugby Shirt Designing Workshop.
Throughout the day, our students were required to fully design a brand new Rugby Team shirt for English Martyrs' and develop strategies to promote rugby around school. Their innovation and creativeness have produced these fantastic new rugby shirts in which the school rugby team will now wear for future tournaments.
As part of the programme, one lucky student will also be invited to attend the Six Nations - England v Ireland - Rugby match at Twickenham in order to wear the shirt and sing the National Anthem on the pitch prior to the match.
